The inimitable Tony Bancroft dropped by the studio to update us on a scene that he is animating for our second episode “Saving Faith”. Mike and Tony go over a particular scene, (the greedy fingers scene) as well as take a peak at the storyboard for our third episode “Loving Obedience”. We always enjoy visits from our animators.

This next clip talks about sin; we have all fallen short of the Glory of God. It matters not how smart we are, what “good works” we have attempted, or how religious we may be…
About this clip: Recently we have received lots of positive feedback about this section of the short. In this clip you can see a different style of animation which was popularize by United Production of America in the late 1940’s/early 1950’s. We love the animation of the past and wanted to include this style of animation in Theo. Our inspiration for UPA style was found in classics like Toot, Whistle, Plunk, and Boom (Disney), and Gerald McBoing-Boing. In this clip the animation and character designs were done by Bob McKnight.

This clip is really at the core of Theo’s “Good News.” It clearly depicts the awful separation between sinful mankind and holy God. Because “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23), there is no way for this young couple to cross the great divide without Jesus Christ becoming the “Light Bridge.” But in Christ there is no divide at all.
This is the “good news” Theo wants the world to know. We chose to depict the young couple in rotoscope form, and without features, so that the viewer could better identify with one or the other character, and perhaps project his/her face in its place.
It is our hope that you, as did the young couple in the clip, choose the free gift of life through Jesus Christ.
About this clip: These scenes are the heart of our production. When we were brainstorming on how to translate this message onto the screen, we thought about using the technique of rotoscoping. For those of you who are not familiar with this process, it is basically tracing around filmed digital images on the computer. It took about a month to complete this short bit of footage. Daniel, our fine arts designer worked on this section, and we are very proud of how it turned out.
